QFC Through the Years

Founding and Early Years

Jack Croco founded QFC in 1955, opening the first store in Bellevue, Washington’s Lake Hills neighborhood. From the beginning, QFC was built on exceptional service and quality products. Jack and his team greeted customers with warm smiles, learned their names and tailored their shopping experiences to create lasting connections.

Expansion and Growth

QFC quickly became known for superior quality in the greater Seattle area. During the 1980s and 1990s, the company expanded significantly, merging with Johnny’s in 1993, Olson’s in 1994 and Uddenberg stores in 1996. In 1998, QFC opened its first locations outside Washington, entering the Portland, Oregon market. That same year, QFC merged with Fred Meyer, eventually becoming part of The Kroger Co. in 1999.

A Tradition of Quality

Today, QFC remains a proud operating division of Kroger, the nation’s largest grocery chain, while staying true to Jack’s original vision and being the market of choice in our Pacific Northwest communities.
